**Spoilers ahead!**
Coronation Street's Leanne Battersby faces a very familiar battle for families considering medical cannabis treatment for their children over the coming weeks.
The long-running ITV soap will feature a storyline regarding mum Leanne's dilemma about appropriate treatment for her son, Ollie, who lives with life-limiting mitochondrial disease.
There is currently no cure for mitochondrial disease, but it is now widely recognised that one of the most effective treatments for the resulting epileptic seizures is medicinal cannabis.
Hannah Deacon comments in the article, "Despite medical cannabis being a fully legal treatment, a lack of understanding remains, which prevents it from losing its taboo status.
“Being portrayed on a soap opera could go a long way to further the public’s understanding of the medicine.”
